第二语言习得:Second Language Acquisition /SLA 。当然,也有人成为第二语言获得,或者第二语言悉得。天涯上曾经有一篇著名的英语学习方法及其误区分析的帖子,就主张翻译为第二语言悉得。用专业术语来说,第二语言习得是应用语言学的一个分支学科,研究对象主要是人类学习第二语言的过程及其结果,目标是对学习者的语言能力和交际能力进行客观描述和科学解释。
早期的二语习得理论被看作是普通的外语教学的附庸,并未受到足够的重视,只是被看做提高教学质量的一种工具而已。大约是在二十世纪六十年代末,第二语言习得才正式独立为一门学科受到重视。现在的第二语言习得研究概括说来论及三大领域,也就是中介语研究,学习者内部因素研究和学习者外部因素研究。
根据维基百科上的解释,第二语言习得被看做:
Second language acquisition or second language learning is the process by which people learn a second language in addition to their native language(s). "Second language acquisition" refers to what the learner does; it does not refer to what the teacher does (see "language education" for work on language teaching). "Second language acquisition research" studies the psychology and sociology of the learning process.
